"Pokéland" to Bring "Pokémon Rumble" Style Action to Smartphones

The Pokémon Company has some Pokémon Rumble-style action in store for smartphones. Pokéland is a newly-announced app that pits toy Pokémon against each other, and it's currently on the way to iOS and Android in Japan.

Players will be able to link up their Nintendo Accounts to play, starting with an Android-exclusive alpha test that kicks off today. The alpha will consist of 134 Pokémon types across six islands and 52 stages, allowing participants to progress as far as the Champion Tower's 15th floor.

That progress will ultimately be temporary, because the data will be deleted once the official app is available. The Japanese alpha testing phase will run until June 9, and you can see more images of the game on the official Pokéland site
