"Death Note" Director Adam Wingard to Helm "Godzilla vs. Kong"

The worlds of the most recent Godzilla and King Kong movies—which kicked off in 2014 with Godzilla and continued with this year's Kong: Skull Island, leading into the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters sequel—are set to collide. The inevitable Godzilla vs. Kong film has been out in the open for a while, but according to The Hollywood Reporter it now officially has a director.

Making a huge leap in career scale, that job is going to Adam Wingard, most known for his low-budget horror and thriller movies You're Next and The Guest, as well as 2016's Blair Witch reboot. Wingard also recently directed the Netflix movie adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's Death Note manga, which is due out this August.

Godzilla vs. Kong has a big team of writers behind it, with Pirates of the Caribbean's Terry Rossio at the forefront. Among the other folks working hard on the story are Lindsey Beer, Cat Vasko, T.S. Nowlin (Maze Runner), Jack Paglen (Transcendence), J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5), and Star Trek Beyond's Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne.
