NHK Celebrates Track and Field Athlete with "Eiko-naki Tensai-tachi" TV Special

On May 28, 2017, Nippon Television will air a 49 minute TV special entitled "Eiko-naki Tensai-tachi kara no Monogatari" ("Stories from 'Geniuses without Glory'") that celebrates the life and career of Olympic sprinter Takayoshi Yoshioka, an athlete who once held the 10.3 second record for the 100 meter dash. The program consists of an animated segment and a documentary segment.

 

 

The animated segment of the program is based on the Eiko-naki Tensai-tachi historical sports manga, which is written by Tomoyoshi Itou and illustrated by Shingo Morita. Eiko-naki Tensai-tachi was serialized from 1986 - 1992 in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump seinen manga magazine. Takahiro Sakurai provides the voice for Takayoshi Yoshioka in the animated segment. Other cast and staff members include:

"Eiko-naki Tensai-tachi kara no Monogatari" will air on NHK BS1 at 11:00 PM JST on May 28, 2017. This broadcast marks the 2nd Eiko-naki Tensai-tachi TV special; the 1st special aired in March of 2017 and was dedicated to the sport of swimming.
