For audiobook fans overseas, OTOBOOK's FeBe website is the answer to Audible. The website offers audiobooks of Japanese literature, translations, light novels, and more, all of which can be played via FeBe's smartphone app. Their most recent offering is a new reading of Tokuya Higashigawa's 2010 murder mystery The After-Dinner Mysteries, featuring three well-known voice actors accompanying the main reader.
The story stars Reiko, an heiress-turned-detective who gets help solving cases from her Jeeves-esque new butler, Kageyama. Together, the two crack cases that Reiko's boss, the over-the-top Kazamatsuri, might otherwise botch.
The book received a TV adaptation in 2011 starring Keiko Kitagawa (Rei Hino in Pretty Guardian Sailormoon) as Reiko and Sho Sakurai (Gan-chan in Takashi Miike's Yatterman film) as Kageyama. This new audiobook adaptation stars Eriko Matsui (Nao Kamiya, THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS) as Reiko, Daisuke Namikawa (Rock, Black Lagoon) as Kageyama, and Yusuke Shirai (Io Naruko, Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!) as Kazamatsuri. Mitsuo Iwata (Kaneda, Akira) will provide narration.
Fans who buy the audiobook before the end of the day on August 27 will be entered in a lottery to win a special promotional prize. Three winners will receive the autographs of all four readers.
The After-Dinner Mysteries is now on sale on FeBe's website.
