JR East has announced the renewal of the "Pokémon with You Train", a novelty train car that services the Ofunato line in the Tōhoku region of Honshu, with an all-new theme that encourages parents and their children to enjoy a train ride with Pikachu.
Originally commissioned in 2012, the "Pokémon with You Train" is a modified KiHa 100 train whose interior and exterior have been decorated with artwork that immerses passengers in the world of Pokémon. The original train concluded service on May 07, 2017, having transported some 40,000 people during its 4 year and 5 month tour as a special express train.
The newly remodeled "Pokémon with You Train" features a Pikachu theme on both the interior and exterior of the cars. It will begin service on July 15, 2017, and will run mostly on weekends and during summer break between Ichinoseki Station and Kesennuma Station.
