English-Language "Monster Strike" Game Goes Out with a Bang

Despite attempts to keep it rolling for Western fans, it looks like the English-language version of Monster Strike will be closing down as of this August.

An announcement from XFLAG states that despite their best efforts, the game has not been as successful as hoped, and maintaining quality service is no longer feasible. That said, they will not just be rolling over quietly: they intend to give their fans one big last hurrah before they close down.

This month, players can expect to see the release of new Transcensions, a new Colossal Quest, and the Tower of Champions, an event allowing players to fight their way through challenging multi-level dungeons.

In June, daily quests and new Impossible Quests will be released, as well as a new event series.

And in July, there will be massive login rewards, as well as more daily quests, Impossible quests, and another event series.

In-app purchases, data recovery, and new installs will be disabled on July 2, and the server will shut down on August 1.

Of the closing, the company says:

When we first launched the game, we were really hoping to bring the joy of Monster Strike to players everywhere. There had never been a monster-slinging game before, and there will never be another one quite like it. We’ll always remember the first play video that we made for YouTube, when we lost a close match against Inari X. Or the passionate comments that were posted on Facebook during the choppy waters we navigated through together last year. We’ve been really grateful for your support. For everything you’ve done to keep us going over the years, we owe you our thanks.

They also promise "more to come" in future, despite reiterating that there are no plans to re-release Monster Strike in English. As for the team itself, "new projects await," but their current focus is on a fun ending for their devoted players.

If you want to give it a try before it's gone forever, grab it now for your iPhone or Android.
