"Akagi" Charity Blood Drive Event Yields Unexpected Results

Crunchyroll previously reported on how the pixiv Zingaro gallery in Nakano, Tokyo, Japan is hosting an exhibition based on the artwork of Akagi, a gambling manga by Nobuyuki Fukumoto, as well as a charity blood drive event on May 03, 2017, that pitted the hero and villain of Akagi against one another in a contest to see who could raise the most blood donations.

The rules of the contest were simple: donors could fill out a card to choose who their blood would go toward "saving", Akagi Shigeru or his nemesis Iwao Washizu. Now the results for the "Akagi and Washizu, Which Will You Rescue!?" contest have been announced, and the winner may surprise you:

That's right, the winner of the contest is Yukio Hirayama, aka "Fake Akagi", one of the victims of Iwao Washizu. In the manga and TV anime, Hirayama perishes after losing all of his blood to Washizu in a game of mahjong, but pixiv Zingaro is happy to report that they were able to revive poor Hirayama with 9200 millileters (19.4 pints) of donated blood.

The results are a bit of a twist, but excited fans soon took to Twitter with fan-art celebrating the unlikely resurrection of "Fake Akagi":

Truly, blood is thicker than water.
