Totoro-Themed "Ghibli Park" Opens in Aichi Prefecture in 2020

Studio Ghibli is teaming up with Aichi Prefecture to create a My Neighbor Totoro-themed installation entitled "Ghibli Park" that is aims to be open to the public in 2020. Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki and Aichi Prefecture governor Hideaki Ōmura met on May 31, 2017, to arrange the general outline of the agreement.

"Ghibli Park" will occupy some 200 hectares (2 square kilometers, or about 494 acres) of land in Moricoro Park (also known as the Love Earth Expo Memorial Park) in Nagakute City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The installation will not involve clearing the forest to install new developments, but rather through careful maintenance it will emphasize the year-round natural beauty of the local trees and flowers.

Moricoro Park was the location of the 2005 Love Earth Expo, and it is also currently hosts "Satsuki and Mei's House", a life-size reproduction of the residence the main human characters of My Neighbor Totoro.
