"Pokémon GO" to Enter the Real World for First Anniversary Event

The Pokémon GO team has a lot to celebrate, especially with the first anniversary right around the corner. That's not the only milestone, though—the app also racked up an impressive 750 million global downloads—so some commemorative events are in order. Those events will take place both in-game and in the real world, starting with a Solstice Event that offers up rewards in the game on June 13.

The real centerpiece of this anniversary, however, is Pokémon GO Fest Chicago, the first officially organized event that takes augmented reality into… actual reality. The event is scheduled for July 22, and will take place at Grant Park in downtown Chicago, IL. Tickets and more info will go live on the Pokémon GO website on Monday, June 19 at 10:00am Pacific Time.

Fans in Europe can also look forward to events of their own across the continent from June through September, with more information and a complete schedule to be revealed soon.
