It is confirmed today that the upcoming three-episode live-action web drama based on Hideaki Sorachi's action comedy manga Gintama will tell the "Mitsuba Arc" that was told in the manga's 129th to 132nd chapters and that Sougo Okita's older sister Mistuba is played by 26-year-old fashion model/actress Kie Kitano.
The episodes featuring the members of Shinsengumi, called one of the most popular serious "tear-jerking" stories in the manga, are included in the 15th and 16th tankobon volumes and were previously told in the TV anime's 86th and 87th episodes aired in December 2007.
Kie Kitano started her career as a fashion model for a teens magazine in 2005 when she was 14, then won the Miss Magazine 2006 Grand Prix in the following year. Her first starring film was Koufuku na Shokutaku directed by Takashi Komatsu (GTO, Wild Flowers) in 2007, then starred in Bushido Sixteen
(2010) and Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (2014).
NTT DoCoMo's online video streaming service dTV will start offering the three episodes simultaneously
on July 15, one day after the theatrical release of the feature film in Japan, which is based on the manga's
main story. The feature film's director Yuichi Fukuda works on the web drama as director/writer, and the
main cast of the film, including Shun Oguri as Gintoki Sakata, are confirmed to appear.
