"Captain Tsubasa" Reaches 100th Volume Publication Milestone

With the publication of the 6th volume of Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun in Japan on June 02, 2017, the long-running soccer manga by Yōichi Takahashi has reached a publication milestone: the series has published a total of 100 collected volumes, with some 70 million copies in-print in Japan alone.

The first manga in the series, Captain Tsubasa, originally ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1981 - 1988, followed by Captain Tsubasa: World Youth from 1994 - 1997. The series moved to Shueisha's seinen publication Weekly Young Jump with Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002 from 2001 - 2004, Captain Tsubasa: Golden-23 from 2005 - 2008, and Captain Tsubasa: Kaigai Gekito Hen from 2009 - 2012. Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun is currently serialized in Shueisha's Grand Jump seinen manga magazine.

Captain Tsubasa has been translated and released in some 20 countries worldwide, including Italy, France, and Mexico. An Arabic language version of the manga began being released in the Middle East in January of 2017, and a Captain Tsubasa stage play is also in the works for August of 2017. The series has also inspired numerous anime and video game adaptations.
