ONE PIECE Ch. 737 Review -- AV MOD MATERIAL

The tournament is starting to grab me back.

Luffy is caught inside a living castle, Sabo's cover may soon be blown, and Usopp leads the Tontatta Army from behind. If they succeed,Dressrosa will explode into chaos.

The Good

They must have gone to the same stealth school as Luffy.

When writing these reviews, I tend to like to find an aspect of the story that really grabs me, then I try to explain to you -- the audience -- why said scene catches my attention. How do I do that with chapters such as these? So much is happening in each scene. This shouldn't surprise me at this point. This tends to happen in later ONE PIECE arcs.

Something about it just seems to stand out more, and I think it's the tournament. It feels like we're channel surfing between separate shows during commercials, but with a near perfect coordination. To date, I don't feel as if we're missing anything too important. This issue starts off as a monster movie, changing to professional wrestling, then switching to spy drama.

This could feel like a complete mess, but Oda's gives just enough of each scene before moving on. Different readers will likely be interested in different parts of the story. It's very well balanced and keeps the story moving at a good clip.

The Bad

I can only speak for me personally, but I really don't have much of a problem with this chapter. The arc is still in a stage of building for the plot based section, but Luffy's scene and the tournament scratch that action itch. It would be amazing if the anime could keep this rhythm.

This arc is a year old at this point. It's been a wild ride. You certainly can't complain that Oda isn't giving you enough story. He has three going at this point. It will be very interesting to see how long he can keep this pace. You can feel the tension in the air. Dressrosa is a power keg ready to explode, and Leo is holding the lit match. How much longer till things really blow up? That keeps bringing me back.
