Live-Action "Kiki's Delivery Service" Gets Tasty-Looking Tie-In Treats

Treats easily rank among my favorite things in the world, so the latest promotional tie-in for the upcoming live-action Kiki's Delivery Service film looks pretty tempting. Japanese bakery chain Little Mermaid is getting in on the fun with baked goods modeled somewhat abstractly after Kiki, Jiji the black cat, and Ms. Osono.

The Kiki chocolate doughnut (¥130/$1.27) mixes smooth chocolate with crunchy biscuit batter for a design inspired by the lead's wardrobe.

Kiki's cat gets the muffin below, with the inspiration most evident in the decorated wrapper. "Jiji's Chocolate Muffin" goes for ¥190 ($1.85).

A reference to Kiki's mother figure can be found in "Ms. Osono's Cat Breads," which evoke thoughts of the Gutiokipanya bakery in which so much of the story is set. The friendly looking cat breads, available with and without whiskers, go for ¥100 ($0.98).

The treats are available now at Little Mermaid, where they'll be sitting waiting to be devoured until April 30. Kiki's Delivery Service opens in Japanese theaters on March 1.
