Yokozuna Kisenosato Yutaka Cosplays as Raoh from "Fist of the North Star"

At a promotional event in Tokyo scheduled for May of 2017, Kisenosato Yutaka, the 72nd yokozuna of the sumo wrestling world, will be transformed through costume and makeup into Raoh, the King of Fists, from Tetsuo Hara and Buronson's classic post-apocalyptic martial arts manga and anime, Fist of the North Star.

Kisenosato's ceremonial attendants (the tachimochi and the tsuyuharai) will be dressed as Kenshiro and Toki, respectively. The collaboration marks the first time that a reigning yokozuna will perform a ring entrance ceremony cosplaying as a character from a work of animation.

When asked why he chose to be depicted as Raoh, a major villain, rather than Kenshiro, the hero of Fist of the North Star, Kisenosato reflected on the teachings of his master, the previous yokozuna Takanosato Toshide. According to Kisenosato, Takanosato instructed him that: "Unless you experience loneliness, you cannot grow strong."
