Hey! Say! JUMP Member Yuri Chinen to Star in "Kids on the Slope" Live-Action Film Adaptation

Yuri Chinen, 23-year-old member of Japanese boy idol group Hey! Say! JUMP, is confirmed to star as the protagonist Kaoru Nishimi in the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Yuki Kodama's Jazz music-themed manga Sakamichi no Apollon/Kids on the Slope to be released in 2018. For this role, Chinen started taking piano lessons in September 2016.

 

Kaoru's friend drummer Sentaro Kawabuchi is played by 18-year-old Taishi Nakagawa (Arata Kaizaki in ReLIFE) and Kaoru's love interest and Sentaro's childhood friend Ritsuko Mukae is portrayed by 21-year-old Nana Komatsu (Yukako Yamagishi in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable).

 

42-year-old Miki Takahiro, who has worked on many live-action film adaptations based on popular manga series, such as Inio Asao's Soranin (2010), Yuki Obata's Bokura ga Ita/We Were There (2012), Taku Tsumugi's Hot Road (2014), Io Sakisaka's Ao Haru Ride (2014), and Kazune Kawahara's Aozora

Yell/Yell for The Blue Sky, is attached to direct on a screenplay by Izumi Takahashi (Himitsu The Top Secret,

Museum).

 

The manga was serialized in Shogakukan's shojo manga magazine Monthly Flowers from 2007 to 2012,

then compiled in nine tonkobon volumes and one spin-off story volume. It was adapted into a 12 TV anime

series animated by MAPPA and Tezuka Production that aired in Japan from April to June 2012.

 

 

The original manga author Kodama has posted her comment on the live-action film:

 

"As it has been already reported on the news sites and other media, Sakamichi no Apollon will get its live-action

film adaptation. It fortunately has a wonderful staff and cast. Just as one audience, I am looking forward to the

completion of the film."
