The "Miko Mizugi" Is the Ultimate Japanese Bathing Suit

If you're looking for a way to look classically Japanese at the beach, we have a solution: the miko mizugi.

If this looks like something out of an anime, you're half right -- illustrator cccpo (Three-See-PO, for those playing the home game) posted an illustration online of a woman in a shrine maiden inspired bikini with no intention of ever seeing it become a real product. But fans had other ideas, and eventually a crowdfunding campaign was set up on CAMPFIRE to make the swimsuit a reality.

The campaign originally set out to raise 300,000 yen (about $2,692), but came in at more than twice that -- 700,000 yen (about $6,282). Thanks to the enthusiastic response, the swimsuit went on sale this week.

In addition to the bikini top and briefs, the set includes a "skirt" with an open front and two armbands. It's available in small and medium sizes for 7,020 yen (about $63).
