Lu Over the Wall (known in Japan as Yoake Tsugeru Lu no Uta) will compete in the Feature Film category of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, a prestigious international film festival dedicated to the art of animation that will be held from June 12 - 17 in Annecy, France.
Lu Over the Wall is one of 10 total films in the Feature Film competition track, including other Japanese films such as In This Corner of the World and A Silent Voice. Previous winners in the Feature Film category include Hayao Miyazaki for Porco Rosso in 1993 and Isao Takahata for Pom Poko in 1994.
Lu Over the Wall is directed by Masaaki Yuasa and features animation by Science Saru. The Annecy International Animation Festival describes the film as follows:
"Kai is a boy who lives in a lonely fishing village. One day, he meets and befriends Lu, a mermaid who likes singing and dancing. But the townspeople have always thought that mermaids bring disaster. Something happens that puts a huge rift between Lu and the villagers, endangering the town."
