At the end of this month, art from 100 of today's top Japanese illustrators will be premiered in Akiba Square as a part of the latest Eshi 100 exhibit -- focused around the theme of "fusion."
Each year, Eshi 100 calls together pop-culture artists to contribute works based around a central theme. This year's theme, "Fusion," was inspired by Japan's growing unity and collaboration with the rest of the world. Works will explore the idea of blending Japanese art with the art of other cultures, learning and growing through collaboration, and establishing harmony between disparate groups.
Among the artists this year are Haruhiko Mikimoto (The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress), Ume Aoki (Hidamari Sketch, Madoka Magica), and KEI (official Vocaloid character designer). Samples of some of the art can be seen on the exhibition's official website.
Eshi 100: Generation 7 will take place between April 29 and May 5 in Akiba Square. Admission is 1,000 yen, or free to junior high students and under.
