ONE PIECE Ch. 744 Review -- AV MOD Material

In the wave of the most recent chaos spreading over Dressrosa, the Revolutionaries have begun to move in force, and Usopp shall guide the forgotten into the light.

The Good

Poor Sabo. Shown up by Usopp.
Poor Sabo. Shown up by Usopp.

Well, Oda sure has some rather unconventional timing in creating Usopp as some pseudo-holy savior, with Easter just around the corner. You have to give some serious credit to the translation team on this chapter. Making that slurred speech joke work in English as well as it does couldn't have been easy, but the effort was well worth it. This one joke steals the show right from under Sabo both claiming the Flame-Flame Fruit and his full reveal.

We all knew that the introductory page of Sabo was coming soon, but I sure wasn't expecting him to also hold the title of second in command to Dragon in the Revolutionaries. It all still makes for some really impressive moments. I can't wait to see where this is going, and how he plans to use those new powers. Though, I may have to do just that.

The Bad

My biggest disappointment is a trivial matter. Sabo eating Ace's devil fruit seemed far too obvious, and I would have liked to have seenRebecca have that power. I felt it would have made a real touching moment. Rebecca gave Luffy all that food, and he'd return the favor by handing over his brother's devil fruit. Oh well. No great loss.

Verdict 5/5

If this is what we had been building to these past few weeks with Usopp's rather despicable behavior, I can completely forgive all his transgressions. Two weeks in a row he's managed to make me laugh in ways that I never saw coming. Top that off with Luffy completely ignoring Law's earnest protest of his attempted rescue, and this has been a real chuckle-fest surrounded by some wild action.

I don't know if I can really claim this is an 'incredible' chapter, but it was filled with some great moments and really funny jokes. It goes beyond my expectations in ways I never saw coming and only failed to meet one other. That's why I feel this earned a 5 out of 5 from me.

You know how I said last week that it was a good thing that chapter isn't ending us on a week break. Well, it appears that Oda was saving that for this one. ONE PIECE is off next week. See you all then.
