Dark Souls and Dark Souls II developer From Software has been bought by Japanese publisher Kadokawa.

Kadokawa will acquire a majority 80 per cent share of From Software’s stock, reported Siliconera, and the deal will be finalised on May 21. The amount of money spent on the deal was not reported.

The bulk of From Software’s success in the West now comes from the Dark Souls series, but the developer is also responsible for the Armoured Core and Tenchu games. From Software also developed 2004′s Japan-only Xbox shooter Metal Wolf Chaos, where you played as an ousted US president attempting to regain control of his country with an uber-powerful mecha.

Kadokawa is a Japanese publishing group that deals is anime, manga, video games, and video games. It’s probably most well-known over here for publishing Lollipop Chainsaw and Killer is Dead.

“With a new system, from this point on, I believe we’ll be able to make newer and more in depth games,” said From Software boss Naotoshi Zin.
