This is Notch’s thumb.

“The original Minecraft has sold 15 million copies! Time to celebrate!” Notch wrote, with an image of a sugar-free Red Bull drink attached.

The original version of Minecraft passed 14 million copies sold in early February. Of course, the game is available on more platforms than just PC. The Xbox 360 version of Minecraft has sold 12 million copies, while the PlayStation 3 version (released in December 2013) sold over 1 million copies during its first month. Minecraft: Pocket Edition has sold 21 million copies across iOS and Android.

Minecraft developer Mojang doesn’t only make money from sales of the game itself. The studio recently launched its subscription-based Minecraft Realms service that lets you host a multiplayer world starting at $13 per month.

Looking forward, Mojang will launch a boxed copy of Minecraft for PS3 next month, while PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions of the game are also expected this year. An Xbox One version of the game is also in the works. In addition, Warner Bros. is working on a motion picture based on Minecraft.
