Wowow Films today announced that a live-action film adaptation of Akira Saso's popular manga Maestro sets release for 2015 as Maestro! (with an exclamation mark). The manga won an Excellence Prize at the 12th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2008.
It was serialized in Futabasha's Manga Action and on Futabasha Web Magazine from 2003 to 2007, and the third/final tankobon volume was published in April 2008. The story sets around ex-members of an famous orchestra which dissolved due to the bankruptcy of the sponsor. A mysterious conductor Tetsusaburo Tendo starts gathering them again and plans to hold a reforming concert. What's the secret behind the concert?
25-year-old Tori Matsuzaka (Gatchaman) will play Shinichi Kosaka, a young concert master of the orchestra,
and 66-year-old veteran Toshiyuki Nishida as the mysterious conductor Tendo. Shotaro Kobayashi directs
the film as his fourth feature following Mainichi Kaasan (2011), which was based on Rieko Saibara's autobiographical
manga. The shooting will start in March.
