Luffy and the gang are guided through to a secret entrance of the Dressrosa Palace by Viola. All the while, Don Quixote Doflamingosudden realizes that he's allied himself with a man for protection that would just as easily swipe for his head if given enough reason.
The Good
Just wait a second. Let's set aside all the story and intrigue for just a minute and really ponder on what we've just read -- assuming you've ready the chapter before you're reading this review. Part of this issue concentrates on our primary cast that are dressed up as animals with samurai hair styles. This isn't even a complaint. I just find myself flabbergasted trying to think of what other author could do something to outlandish and make it work so well. What fevered dreams did Oda have in the hospital while recovering did he have that allowed him to dream up such superb madness?
Much of the chapter was pretty average up until confrontation with Doflamingo. That's when things got interesting. The latest in the line of Navy Admirals, Fujitora, truly appears to be living up to his inspiration of Zatoichi. He is a man of duty and justice, and his words are as blunt as his sword is sharp. He doesn't hesitate to admit that he plans to eradicate the Seven Warlords, and the balance of power be damned. He may be working for the Navy by draft, but he's a true ronin at heart.
The Bad
I'm still open to seeing where the tournament goes, but I just don't see how it links to the drama that's going on outside its walls. That's where the real story is happening. It feels as if we have two shows airing at the same time but on different channels. One the main, and the other the spin-off. You can't spend time on one without taking away from the other.
Verdict 4/5
You have to be amazed when I was finding a story with three men dressed as a frog, cat, and koi to be mundane. Not to say that in a bad way. Oddly enough, this felt almost par for the course. I was getting some pretty good laughs out of it all. Then Fujitora takes the stage and commands it. He took it over the top for me in this week's edition. Dressrosa is quickly turning into powder keg with bunch of lit matches wandering around. Any random spark could turn this into one incredible blast.
