Nintendo's quarterly financial meeting in Japan conveyed a clear need to shake things up and make platforms like the struggling Wii U more desirable to consumers. In addition to other changes—including Nintendo President Satoru Iwata taking a 50% pay cut—one of Nintendo's plans is to bring DS games to Wii U's Virtual Console.
According to Iwata, Nintendo has overcome some technical hurdles, allowing them to bring DS titles to the Wii U GamePad. No specific games were detailed, but one of the slides offered an idea of how something like Brain Age might look on the GamePad.
Other plans involve using smartphones as a catalyst to drive customers toward Nintendo platforms. While that doesn't include releasing Nintendo games on other devices, Nintendo will license their character rights to new partners for use in more than just games.
Nintendo also wants to focus more on health and general well-being, with plans for non-wearables that can monitor your health. More info on this is set to come this year, and we'll have some more on Nintendo's future plans throughout the day.
