The website for the live-action film of Kanae Hazuki‘s Suki-tte Ii na yo (Say “I love you”.) manga began streaming a teaser trailer on Thursday. The teaser reveals that the film will open on July 12.
Mei Tachibana [thinking]: I don’t need friends or sweethearts. For the longest time, I used to think that.
Yamato Kurosawa: Mei Tachibana.
Mei Tachibana [thinking]: Until I met him.
The tagline of the film is, “With this kiss, my world changes.”
The story of first love centers around Mei Tachibana, a girl who has never made friends or had a boyfriend in 16 years. One day, she accidentally injures Yamato Kurosawa, the school’s most popular boy. For some reason, Yamato becomes interested in Mei and starts a one-sided friendship with her. He even protects her from a stalker — by kissing her.
Haruna Kawaguchi (Ouran High School Host Club‘s Haruhi, Zekkyō Gakkyū‘s Kana) stars as Mei Tachibana, and Sōta Fukushi (Library Wars’ Hikaru Tezuka, Kami-sama no Iu Toori’s Shun Takahanta, Kamen Rider Fourze) co-stars as Yamato Kurosawa. Additional cast members include Tomohiro Ichikawa (Otomen‘s Kitora Kurokawa, Silver Spoon‘s Ichiro Komaba) as Kai Takemura, Rika Adachi (Ama-chan, Giga Tokyo Toy Box) as Aiko Mutō, Tasuku Nagase (Lesson of the Evil, Ouran High School Host Club, Kamen Rider Wizard) as Kenji Nakanishi, Rima Nishizaki (Stella Women’s Academy, High School Division Class C3‘s Rento Kirishima) as Asami Oikawa, Ryōsuke Yamamoto (2011 Hana-Kimi‘s Akira) as Masashi Tachikawa, and Arisa Yagi as Megumi Kitagawa.
Asako Hyūga (Forgotten Dreams, Morisaki Shoten no Hibi) is directing and writing the film. The movie started filming in early January, with plans to wrap up in mid-February.
Hazuki launched the manga in Kodansha‘s Dessert magazine in 2008, and Kodansha published the 11th volume of the manga in July with an original anime DVD. The “love bible” has sold over 5.3 million copies. Crunchyroll streamed the television anime adaptation outside of Japan as it aired in 2012, and Sentai Filmworks released the anime on home video last month. Kodansha Comics will release the original manga in North America.
