Cat Day is another of those fun, pun pseudo-holidays. 2 is pronounced "ni" in Japanese, and 2.22 sounds enough like "Nyan Nyan Nyan" ("meow meow meow") that in 1987, the Japan Pet Food Association was able to establish Neko no Hi (the day of cats). As might be expected, in recent years this had evolved into an excuse for plenty of fan art and social media fun.
Of course otaku idol and notorious cat licker Shokotan was an eager participant ...
