Plans for the anime adaptation and drama CD based on Io Sakisaka's Ao Haru Ride shoujo manga have been updated. Ai Yoshimura (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, Daily Lives of High School Boys storyboard artist and episode director) will helm the anime from Production I.G with Tomoko Konparu (Kimi ni Todoke) on composition.
The manga has been serialized in Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret since the February 2011 issue and the latest ninth tankobon volume was released in Japan in January. It has had more than 4.4 million copies in print.
The story centers around freshman high school girl Futaba Yoshioka. In her junior high school days, she was not good at dealing with boys, except Kou Tanaka from the class next door. He transferred to a different school during summer vacation. In her high school, she meets again her first love Kou Mabuchi (his family name is changed due to his parents' divorce), but his character is totally different than it used to be.
A drama CD is also planned for release with volume 10 of the manga on May 23rd.
Voice cast include Maaya Uchida (Rikka Takanashi in Chunibyo Demo Koi ga Shitai!) as the protagonist girl Futaba Yoshioka, Yuuki Kaji (Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan) as Kou Mabuchi, along with Yuuri Makita as Ai Kayano and Shuuko Murao as Mikako Komatsu and Aya Kominato and KENN as Aya Kominato.
