North American video distributor Discotek Media announced on Thursday that it licensed the Lupin III: The Hemingway Papers television special and the complete DearS anime series. Both titles will be released on DVD on May 27.
Lupin III: Hemingway Papers aired in 1990 as the second in an annual string of television specials starring Monkey Punch‘s iconic thief. The story has Lupin III and his cohorts trying to find treasure outlined in the last novel by Ernest Hemingway. When they reach the island, they instead discover a struggle for power. This DVD will have the Japanese-language dialogue with English subtitles.
Discotek licensed the first Lupin the 3rd TV special in November. The company also wrote on Facebook that it will release a Lupin title on Blu-ray but it is not The Secret of Mamo film or a previously announced Lupin title.
The television anime of the DearS manga by Peach-Pit (Rozen Maiden, Shugo Chara!) aired in 2004. Geneon licensed the series and released it in North America in 2005. The story follows high school student Takeya Ikuhara who finds himself the master of Ren, a member of an alien race known as DearS. This DVD will include English and Japanese dialogue with English subtitles.
Discotek also announced it will release the Tenjho Tenge anime series on DVD on May 27. It will include English and Japanese dialogue with English subtitles.
