"Sonic Boom" Animated Series Spawns New Games, Toys, and More

Sega finally busted out some details on Sonic Boom, an animated series coming to Cartoon Network this fall. It turns out the CG-animated series is paving the way for a new franchise direction, with Wii U and 3DS games to follow suit along with a line of toys.

Sega is really hoping these freshly redesigned buddies below will make a splash worldwide.

The TV series and video games will share a common narrative, with the games acting as a prequel to the show. Sonic Boom serves up an ensemble comedy planned for 52 11-minute episodes that take character-driven stories and spiral them into action-packed adventures.

The games will focus on collaborative gameplay, with California-based Big Red Button Entertainment handling the Wii U title, and Sanzaru games taking on the Nintendo 3DS entry, both in collaboration with Sonic Team. Players can expect a combination of traditional elements like speed along with exploration, combat, and a new Enerbeam tether mechanic.
