BLEACH Ch. 565 Review -- AV MOD MATERIAL

Can you also see all the obstacles in your way?
Can you also see all the obstacles in your way?

The story of Yhwach is an ancient legend of a man who was named after the gods and believes himself to truly be one.

The Good

I certainly hope that was Uryu's motive.
I certainly hope that was Uryu's motive.

I really had to let this chapter sit before putting my thoughts to words. It's certainly informative, and it actually caught me of guard. As I was reading the preamble, I was certain it was describing the origin of the Spirit King. It all seemed to make sense, then the big reveal that this was the story of Yhwach. That messiah complex he's got going makes a hell of a lot more sense now.

This ability does certainly ratchet up the threat. Now with each passing battle, no matter who wins, we'll know that it's only making Yhwach ever stronger. Yet no one on the outside realizes this. Although, I'm still left with new questions. If Yhwach is such an extraordinary being, what role did he previously play in the Soul Society, and what is the Spirit King?

The Bad

After a series of really entertaining battles, everything comes to a stop for a ton of exposition and the villain's nap time. That pretty much sums up this issue within a single sentence.

Don't think I didn't notice that Yhwach mentions James' death but nothing about Mask De Masculine.

Verdict 2/5

To say this chapter was uneventful would be an understatement. There's a touch of political drama with Uryu, but he's merely the vessel for this information to be fed to the audience. With all the back story going on, this still doesn't quite explain why there is this need for balance. That concept has been repeated, and I can only guess that will be broken down for us later on.

It's not a terrible chapter, and these events will add layers of all the battles we now read following it. It's good that we get this out of the way while we're between the action. I'm looking forward to what we get next week.
