The official movie poster has been released for Asahinagu, an upcoming live-action film based on the seinen manga by Ai Kozaki about a high school girl learning the art of the naginata (a type of long-handled Japanese blade).
In Asahinagu, Nanase Nishino of idol group Nogizaka46 stars as Asahi Tojima, a physically unassuming young lady who decides to improve herself by studying martial arts. Asahi joins her school's naginata club and, through hard work and determined training, she aims for a spot in the national naginata martial arts competition. The film is directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa and also stars Mai Shiraishi as Maharu Miyaji.
The original Asahinagu manga has been serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits seinen manga magazine since 2011, with a total of 20 collected volumes published in Japan. The Asahinagu live-action film hits theaters in Japan on September 22, 2017.
