With the release of its May issue on April 15, 2017, Shogakukan's CoroCoro Comic, a monthly manga magazine aimed primarily at elementary school students, began celebrating its 40th anniversary.
First published in 1977, over the decades CoroCoro Comic has been the home to such popular publications as Doraemon, Pokémon, Beyblade, Yo-Kai Watch, and Bikkuriman. The magazine's circulation peaked at 2 million copies in 1997, and it currently boasts a circulation of nearly 800,000 copies.
The May 2017 issue seeks to commemorate the 40th anniversary celebrations with oodles of goodies, including: Duel Masters cards featuring CoroCoro Comic manga characters, a re-printing of the "Dragon Passport" notebook, a scratch-off contest offering the chance to win Beyblade toys, a full color Splatoon comic, and an original memorial comic examining the life and work of Fujiko F. Fujio, the creator of Doraemon.
CoroCoro Comic retails for 550 yen ($5.06 US).
