Comic Walk-First "The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress" Light Novel Plans Announced

Digital manga and light novel platform BookWalker Global has announced plans to expand their selection of light novels in English with their first title offered as a BookWalker-first and 6-month exclusive: The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress (Tatakau Panya to Kikaiji kake no Kanbanmusume) by SOW, illustrated by ZAZA. The first volume of this series will debut on BookWalker in June 2017.

Book Walk describes the series

"The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress" is about an ex-soldier who moves to a rural town to open a bakery. While he has no problem baking delicious bread, this battle-scarred veteran discovers that his intimidating demeanor is scaring off potential customers. What good is having a bakery if you can’t sell a single loaf of bread?

Just when he’s ready to give up, a red-eyed, white-haired girl walks into his shop to ask for a job. Could hiring her save his bakery? Just who is this beautiful girl? Is she even human?!

Originally published by HobbyJAPAN, "The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress" was recognized as one of the top rising light novels in Japan. It ranked #6 on the New Works list in the 2016 edition of Kono Light Novel Ga Sugoi (This Light Novel is Amazing), an annual guidebook that spotlights the most popular light novels in Japan, as selected by readers through an online poll. Past winners recognized by this poll include A Certain Magical Index and Book Girl (both also available from BookWalker).

"The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress is" just the first of many light novels that will be offered as BookWalker-first titles that will debut as English language releases on BookWalker Global, and will only be available on BookWalker for the first 6 months after release.

Although the translation costs for these light novels will be fully funded by BookWalker, the English language translation rights will belong to the original publisher. BookWalker hopes that this initiative will give more chances for a wider variety of titles to get released in English outside of Japan. BookWalker’s mission is to encourage innovation and expansion in manga/light novel publishing, so by providing this extra boost to smaller publishers, BookWalker is doing its part to help more titles reach more readers worldwide.

To celebrate the debut. BookWalker will be giving away special promo gifts featuring this light novel at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, from July 1-4, 2017.
