NARUTO Ch. 672 Review -- AV MOD Material

More like, "Time to finally end this arc."
More like, "Time to finally end this arc."

As Might Guy's valiant effort to buy time may be nearing its end, Naruto and Sasuke are both ready to take up the torch to end Madara'sscheme.

The Good

The art and the action look really good. I just wish it was the protagonist that was pounding Madara into a bloody splatter on the wall.

The Bad

I just can't take Madara seriously as a villain anymore.
I just can't take Madara seriously as a villain anymore.

As a reader, you have no reason to take anything Kishimoto makes seriously. He's come to a point where he's created pseudo-drama in his manga. What was the point of giving Guy two flashbacks? They're a great tool for building either suspense or sympathy for a character prior to their death. However, the creator has made it a regular practice to completely contradict these scenes. It then makes the time those flashbacks took up completely pointless. That's why I'd love to play cards with him. I know that he'll always bluff and fold in the end.

Putting aside how ridiculous it is to have Guy crushing on God-tier Madara, it just doesn't make the best story sense. Kishimoto has repeatedly built Madara up as one of the biggest bads of the world he crafted. The dude summoned a meteor, ala Sephiroth in FINAL FANTASY VII, just to take out a few heroes, and that was his opening act. Why is he having Guy be the one to decimate the revived Uchiha? It just won't be all that impressive when Naruto eventually fights him, and it diminishes the villain's presence.

Verdict 2/5

I've started noticing something about myself after I finish a chapter of NARUTO. I tend to close out my reading session with an audible sigh and thinking to myself, "Well, yet another week until Naruto fights the bad guy and finally ends this arc.". This is something that's only just started to come to my attention, but I think I may have been doing this subconsciously for the past several months.

One of the biggest reasons having Guy be the one to mop the floor with Madara in this way concerns me. I'm worried seeing it here means Naruto isn't going to fight him, and he'll try to talk it out again. I doubt that will happen, but it's a definite concern I have. We'll see next week.
