VIDEO: "Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary" Trailer

Back at 2012's international TV and entertainment trade show MIPCOM, Toei talked up for a new launch of popular fight series Saint Seiya, with Toei Animation chairman Kozo Morishita promising a "top-level budget" CGI 3D movie.

At the time, Morishita explained the plans:

"In the past we'd produced a TV series first and then a film, but we've found that delivering a movie before embarking on a series is a great way to test the appetite of audience and limit risks."

Now, Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary is on its way to Japanese theaters this summer.

The story of the film is based on the "Sanctuary Arc" in Masami Kurumada's original manga, which mainly focuses on the battle between the Bronze Saint protagonists and the Gold Saints, the most powerful Knights in Athena's army, through the 12 temples to save Athena who was shot with a golden arrow. It is directed by Keiichi Sato (Tiger & Bunny, Asura) and written by Tomohiro Suzuki (Tiger & Bunny). The original manga creator Kurumada serves as the executive producer.
