Taishi Murata, Minako Kotobuki to Lead 2014 Spring TV Anime “Baby Steps”











The official site for the forthcoming TV anime adaptation of Hikaru Kachiki’s tennis-themed manga Baby Steps announced its main voice cast and scheduled broadcasting date. The manga is the author’s first serialization work and it has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since October 2007. So far 29 tankobon volumes have been published in Japan and it has become one of the most popular manga in the magazine.


The story centers around a 15-year-old high school student Eiichiro Maruo who has a methodical personality and is doing very well at school. One day he joins South Tennis Club (STC) to solve his lack of fitness. He meets a girl named Natsu Takasaki, who goes to the same high school with him. With her guidance and support, Eiichiro starts playing the sport seriously, then aims to become a professional tennis player.


Eiichiro Maruo is voiced by 31-year-old Taishi Murata, who is known as the voice of Takashi Todoroki in


Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal. This is his first protagonist role in his 4-year career. The heroine character Natsu Takasaki


is played by 22-year-old popular voice actress/singer Minako Kotobuki, who is also known as a member of


voice actress idol unit Sphere. Daisuke Namikawa is cast as Eiichiro’s senior Takuma Egawa and Takuma


Terashima as Eiichiro’s best friend Kojiro Kageyama.


The TV anime is produced by Pierrot (Naruto, Bleach) and directed by Masahiko Murata (Mazinkaiser, Naruto


the Movie: Blood Prison). It is scheduled to be premiered on NHK Educational TV on April 6.
