A teaser site for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Haruko Kumota's rakugo (traditional storytelling performance)-themed manga Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju launched today with the first anime key visual and a video message from voice actor Tomokazu Seki, who plays Yotaro (the video is not embeddable).
The anime visual was first introduced in the 23rd issue of Kodansha's quarterly manga magazine ITAN, in which the manga has been serialized since 2010. The official Twitter for the anime, @rakugoshinju, also starts providing the latest news.
Ahead of the TV anime, two-episode OVA will be bundled with the special editions of the upcoming 7th and 8th tankobon volumes. The 7th volume with the OVA will be released on March 6, then the 8th will be
on August 7. The TV anime will follow the story of the OVA episodes featuring the encounter between
ex-thug Yotaro (Tomokazu Seki) and his future rakugo master the 8th Yakumo Yurakutei (Akira Ishida).
