Appleseed Alpha, a reboot CG-animated feature film based on the first volume of Masamune Shirow's major debut sci-fi manga Appleseed will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on July 22, with an advance digital release on July 15. It is announced that Kodansha's Monthly Morning Two will start serialization of its spin-off manga titled Appleseed α illustrated by Iou Kuroda from its September issue which will be released on July 22. Kuroda is well known for his 2000-2003 work Sexy Voice and Robo which won the Excellence Prize at the 2002 Japan Media Arts Festival.
The Appleseed Alpha film tells the prequel story of the female protagonist Deunan and her cyborg partner Briareos, how they finally arrived the legendary city of Olympus.
