VIDEO: Trailer for Live-Action Film of Koji Aihara’s Zombie Manga “Z”



A two-minute trailer for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Koji Aihara’s zombie apocalypse manga Z is now online. It is featuring the protagonist high school girl Rinko Toda (played by Mayu Kawamoto who has a blackbelt in Kyokushin Karate) fighting against a cloud of zombies with her naginata sword. The film opens in Japan on July 26.



Aihara is best known for his collaboration work with Kentaro Takekuma in late 1980s, parody manga instructional book Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga. The manga Z has been serialized in Nihon Bungeisha’s Bessatsu Manga Goraku and is made in omnibus form to tell various tragic stories about the people across Japan attacked by the zombie plague.



The first feature film titled Z~Hatenaki Kibou (Eternal hope) is directed by Norio Tsuruta who has been


highly-praised for his horror pics such as Ring 0: Birthday (2000), Orochi: Blood (2008), and POV: Norowareta


Film (2012). For your information, the manga author himself performs as one of the zombies in the film.
