Fanart Friday returns, with ALL OF MY LOVE, ALL OF MY ANGER, AND ALL OF MY SORROW! SHINIIIIING--oh, sorry. Last week, we went on our annual trip to the beach (and pool, and festival, etc.), but this week we're back to the voice actor stable with TOMOKAZU SEKI! A prolific leading man among anime voice actors, he's the man behind some of anime's most memorable characters.
I don't know if this is better or worse with the hilarious porno sax in the background
He's taken kind of a backseat lately, but there's no doubt that Tomokazu Seki's distinct, hot-blooded (and sometimes earnest and caring) voice isn't one that's easily forgotten. Let's get started!

Fun fact about being an anime fan in the '90s--Chichiri's "no da" became a ubiquitous part of chat rooms at the height of Fushigi Yugi's popularity in the US. It actually got pretty irritating, because people just couldn't help ending all their sentences with it, no da! Do we even have a modern equivale--oh. "Believe it."

Poor Toki, you'll catch your death of cold sitting out in the rain! I was probably too busy dying of laughter, but I didn't notice that Tomokazu Seki played Toki in DD Fist of the North Star!

Neon Genesis Evangelion had quite a few big names in its cast, but Seki took a supporting role as prideful, dopey Touji Suzuhara. I find every picture with this poor kid to be really tragic, even quiet and happy ones like this.
by ミヤマ
Of course, Seki's still playing leading men every once in a while--one of the more famous recent ones that comes to mind is Psycho-Pass' badass Kogami!
by たじまみなと
I think it's safe to say that one of his most famous roles is at the forefront of Escaflowne as prince-with-anger-issues Van Fanel. Seki's a little too good at being hot-blooded.
by 月島天満
Now for two of his stranger roles: Mepple in Pretty Cure (he's the yellow one, in case you were wondering)...
by 曝頭
...and Yoshimitsu in the Tekken series! Yes, those terrifying robotic howls and, uh... noises... are all Tomokazu Seki!

So I've started a thing where people are calling Captain Earth the much-less-flattering Captain Ass, but somehow my thing for referring to Assassination Classroom as AssClass hasn't taken off quite as quickly. It's pretty awesome that Seki is the enigmatic Korosensei in the OAV, although I don't know if he'll stay for the inevitable TV anime adaptation.
by V-AC
I mean, I've been referring to Assassin's Creed as AssCreed for years, now! In the Japanese dub, Seki plays smooth criminal Ezio Auditore, although a part of me wonders if he uses the standard "Italian" accent while he speaks Japanese. BUONA NOTTE, MINA-SAN

I've been hearing rumblings about a Korean drama remake of Nodame Cantabile (where Seki plays hilarious jerk Chiaki), but I'm a little concerned. Now, I do think people are a lot harder on live-action adaptations than they should be, but the only Korean adaptation of a Japanese property I liked (so far) was Holyland. Who knows, though?

Tatsumi Kanji is easily my favorite Persona 4 character, probably because of his dichotomy: he's a giant badass who can take a man apart with his bare hands (even without using his Persona), but he also absolutely adores cute things and likes making little crocheted stuffed animals. You're the man, Kanji.

God damn, Shuichi, can you get any more pink? At least your jacket and pants are purple, making it an accent (sort of). Strangely enough, I've never seen or read Gravitation. I know of it, and I know a fair bit about the characters and story from friends, but... yeah, never actually checked it out. Should I?
GIRUGAMESH! Okay, with that out of the way, I gotta say that Gilgamesh is one of the more interesting (and really cool-looking) villains in the Fate series. Sure, you've got freaks like Caster, but Gilgamesh is just... raw, intimidating power.

Every time I see Domon Kasshu, it's like Shining Finger immediately starts playing in the background. Mobile Fighter G Gundam is still my favorite Gundam title after all this time, and a lot of that has to do with the hot-blooded passion that Seki gives in his performance as Domon.

So yeah, remember that thing I was talking about at the beginning? There it is in full force! (Sorry, dude.) Also, I kinda like how this artist chose to have Chichiri's "fake" face instead of the "real," scarred one.

I literally made a note to remember this: this Rosario + Vampire character's name is Ginei, not Ginrei, who's from a completely different series. So what's this show about again, other than vampires and breast missiles?

I love how this picture captures every both of Full Metal Panic hero Sousuke's expressions: stoic badass, and quivering in fear. I don't blame him--who'd wanna actually mess with Chidori?
by みちのく
I personally liked Touya Kinomoto best in Tsubasa, but he's still a fun, exasperated older brother in his original Cardcaptor Sakura appearance. I never got to see Card Captors... did he get a goofy Americanized name in that one?
As one of the toughest pre-timeskip "boss" enemies in One Piece that pretty much only fought Luffy ('cause who else would have been a challenge?), Rob Lucci is still one of my favorites. He doesn't say much, but it's really just his force of presence that makes him a memorable antagonist.

If it were released ten years ago, Fairy Tail would probably be seeing Tomokazu Seki as the voice of Natsu or Gray. Now, though, he's adorable tough guy cat Lucky--which is still pretty awesome!
by 伸
But whether he's in the background, like SKET Dance's Student Council President Agata...
by いずはら
...or giving the hero someone to chase after and idolize, like Hajime no Ippo's ice-cold Miyata...
by ふじりか
...or just plain being one of the heroes, like Fruits Basket's Kyo, Tomokazu Seki will always be a favorite. But as for my favorite role Seki's done?
Yup, he was Gai Daigoji in the awesome three-episode series Martian Successor Nadesico. The absolute brightest point of that show, and then... well, no spoilers for this one. Huh? What do you mean there are more episodes? Who wants to follow around that jackoff Akito?
And that's everything for this week! Who's your favorite Tomokazu Seki-voiced character? There's no way I could hvae included them all--let us know in the comments! And for the record, yes, I have seen all of Nadesico.
Like I say every week, your work is always welcome here on Fanart Friday, regardless of your skill level or experience. Just PM me a link to your work, and I'll be sure to include it in a future installment! Here are the next three themes for Fanart Friday:
-Next week, on JULY 4th and celebrating Independence Day, we're signing up with the REVOLUTIONARIES! Whether they're fighting for honor, revenge, love, or the very soul of a country, these underdogs always seem to capture our hearts, even if they don't always come out on top. Who will you pledge your loyalty to? THIS IS THE ONLY THEME I'M TAKING REQUESTS FOR THIS WEEK!
-Then, on JULY 11th, break out the tissues--CR user pinkydo77 requested a SAD and DEPRESSING and HEARTBREAKING theme a while back, and we're finally getting to it! Also, I think I'm gonna charge every time someone incorrectly uses the word "feels." That's depressing and heartbreaking.
-On JULY 18th, we're harder, better, faster, and stronger--or at least, the MACHINES are! From full robots to cyborgs maintaining a tenuous grip on their humanity, who are your favorite mechanical characters?
Thanks again for dropping by to check out Fanart Friday! Have a great weekend (I am most definitely not going to go see Transformers: Age of Extinction), and I hope you come by next time!
