VIDEO: Meet the Heroines of "Hanayamata"

A marvelously lo-fi sound drama movie has accompanied the roll out of the cast for this summer's adaptation of Sou Hamayumiba's Yosakoi Dance-themed manga Hanayamata.

Atsuko Ishizuka (The Pet Girl of SakurasouNo Game, No Life) directs the TV anime for Madhouse with the scripts and series composition by Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!Girls und Panzer). Atsuko Watanabe (Tokyo RavensUnbreakable Machine-Doll) designs the anime characters. And a Tokyo-based creator group MONACA (Haiyore! Nyaruko-sanAikatsu!) produces the music.

The main cast, as Team Hanayamata, sings the opening while SmileY inc. (Otsubo Yuka  and vocaloid producer Yuuyu P) are on the ending.

Naru Sekiya - Reina Ueda

Hana N. Fontainestand - Minami Tanaka

Yaya Sasame - Kaya Okuno

Tami Nishimikado - Yuka Otsubo

Machi Tokiwa - Manami Numakura

The anime also features Megumi Toyoguchi as Sally-sensei (Naru and others' homeroom teacher), and Tsuyoshi Koyama as Masaru Ōfuna (the owner of the Yosakoi shop).

Yosakoi is a traditional summer dance using naruko, small wooden cn clappers which is originated in Kochi Prefecture, Japan. The manga has been serialized in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara Forward since the June 2011 issue and now four tankoubon volumes are available. The story focuses on an ordinary shy 14-year-girl Naru Sekiya who has been yearning for the heroines in fairy tales. On one moonlight night, she encounters an exchange student from the US, Hana N. Fontainestand, who looks like a "fairy" to her. Guided by Hana, Naru starts stepping into the extraordinary world of Yosakoi Dance.
