The PlayStation 4 version of the upcoming Shadow Warrior reboot runs in 1080p, while the Xbox One iteration outputs in 900p, developer Flying Wild Hog has confirmed. Both versions, however, run at 60 fps, according to a new interview posted on GamingBolt.
“Shadow Warrior is a fast paced game, so it was very important to have 60 fps. Also we didn’t want to cut any graphic features, so we decided to use 900p with 60fps,” lead engineer programmer Krzysztof Narkowicz said about the Xbox One version. It was confirmed previously that the PS4 version of Shadow Warrior would run in 1080p/60fps.
As for the challenges developer Flying Wild Hog faced in getting the PS4 version of Shadow Warrior to run at 1080p, Narkowicz said, “Mainly CPU issues, as our engine didn’t scale for more than 2-4 cores. This required a change of threading architecture and many parts of the engine needed a rewrite.”
Shadow Warrior, which launched last year for PC, will be released across PS4 and Xbox One this summer.
It is the latest example of a multiplatform game outputting in a higher resolution on PS4 compared to Xbox One. Though the Xbox One is technically able to deliver games in 1080p/60fps, there is a long list of high-profile games that run in a higher resolution on PS4 than Xbox One, including Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and Watch Dogs, among others.
