Welcome to the ‘Top 10′ weekly feature. Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10. As a note all sales figures are retail only.
This week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in April 2014. Last week we looked at the top 10 selling games in March 2014, and the week before that the top 10 selling games worldwide in 2013.
Looking at the top 10 selling games in April 2014, six of the 10 games were released in 2014. Of those games two were released in March and four in April. The other four games were released in 2013. Of those games one was released in June 2013, one in July, one in September, and one in October.
In April the top 10 games sold 2.48 million units. The top selling game, Titanfall (XOne), sold more than 500,000 million units. The top two sold more than 300,000 units and the top four sold more than 200,000 units. The entire top 10 sold more than 100,000 units.
When you break it down by publisher there are three first party title and seven third party titles. The three first party titles are each by one of the console makers, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. Of the third party titles there are three Namco Bandai titles, two Electronic Arts titles, one Level 5 title, and one Take-Two title.
The three Namco Bandai titles, 3rd Super Robot Wars Z Jigoku Hen for the PlayStation 3 and Vita, and 3rd Super Robot Wars Z Jigoku Hen (PSV) sold a combined 0.53 million units or 21.37 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two Electronic Arts titles, Titanfall for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, sold a combined 1.02 million units or 41.1 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.
When you break it down by platform there are two Xbox 360 titles, one Xbox One title, two PlayStation 3 titles, one PlayStation 4 title, two PlayStation Vita titles, and two 3DS titles. The two Xbox 360 titles sold a combined 0.92 million units or 37.1 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two PlayStation 3 titles sold a combined 0.35 million units or 14.1 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two PlayStation Vita titles sold a combined 0.33 million units or 13.3 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two 3DS titles sold a combined 0.35 million units or 14.1 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.
Side note: The PlayStation 4 was the top selling platform in April with 528,539 units sold. The 3DS sold 427,941 units, the Xbox One sold 252,959 units, the PlayStation 3 sold 190,808 units, the Vita sold 162,735 units, the Xbox 360 sold 123,254 units, the Wii U sold 123,178 units, the PSP sold 47,453 units, and the Wii sold 40,220 units.
The top 25 titles sold more than 100,000 units and the top 65 titles sold more than 200,000 units. The top 135 titles sold more than 25,000 units.
