The PS4 1.70 update–Sony’s biggest firmware release since the console’s launch last November–is now available to download.
Alongside the previously detailed features, Sony has also snuck in the ability to change the brightness of the DualShock 4 light bar: you can now set it to bright, medium, or dim from the settings menu. The touchpad, too, can now be used to zip around the on-screen keyboard.
This arrives alongside video editing doodad SHAREfactory, the option to disable HDCP for games, new PlayStation Camera commands, increased broadcasting resolution and archiving support, and the ability to preload games purchased digitally. Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs is one of the first games to support preloading.
Elsewhere, Sony has also released the Vita 3.15 update, which makes it easier to connect to a PS4 for Remote Play antics, and updated the mobile PlayStation app.
Sony announced earlier this month that global PlayStation 4 sales are now over seven million, so if everyone decides to update their PS4 today that’s probably… a few million gigabytes of bandwidth, I’d imagine.
