Animator / director / character designer Yoh Yoshinari (Gurren Lagann, Little Witch Academia) is paying tribute to the godfather of manga with a new artbook featuring sketches inspired by the characters created by Osamu Tezuka. The 170 page book is published by Style, and it will be available primarily through mail-order websites (such as Amazon Japan) and at events.
Yoshinari claims that he became obsessed with Tezuka's works of manga and animation in 2005, after a Japanese re-release of Tezuka's 1951 Bambi manga. Since then, Yoshinari has studied Tezuka's artwork intensively.
The book, which is entitled The Art of Yoh Yoshinari: Rough Sketches [Tezuka Characters], also includes a Bluray bonus disc featuring a 3 minute silent animation crafted by Yoshinari. The animation features Tezuka characters in motion, although it does not have spoken lines or background music. Yoshinari created the animation entirely by himself in 2008 - 2009.
The Art of Yoh Yoshinari: Rough Sketches [Tezuka Characters] will be published in Japan on April 20, 2017. It retails for 3200 yen ($28.40 US) plus tax.
