Netflix has announced the acquisition of world-wide distribution rights to Godzilla, the upcoming 3DCG theatrical anime film which offers a new take on Toho's most enduring giant monter. Netflix will distribute the film after its Japanese theatrical run.
Concerning the film, director Kobun Shizuno stated that they are "aiming for entertainment on a grand scale that will thrill both people who love Godzilla and people who are unfamiliar with Godzilla alike". Director Hiroyuki Seshita praised the "superb talent and global sense" of fellow creators Kobun Shizuno and Gen Urobuchi, and claimed that the film aims for "strong human drama and a magnificent sense of world-building".
The Godzilla anime film is directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita. It features animation by Polygon Pictures and a screenplay by Gen Urobuchi. The film also features the voice talent of Yuki Kaji, Takahiro Sakurai, Tomokazu Sugita, Junichi Suwabe, Kana Hanazawa, and Mamoru Miyano. Godzilla will hit Japanese theaters in 2017.
