The anime film was initially released in Japan in March 2008 as the 9th One Piece anime feature film, and
has been considered as one of the most tear-jerking episodes of the franchise. The new edition was
produced to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the One Piece TV anime series, adding newly animated
epilogue and spacial messages from the main characters to convey their feelings of gratitude to the fans.
The reason for this failure is obvious; very little people wanted to watch the old film produced six years ago
just for a few minutes new footage. Fuji TV should have known that, too. Probably they had no interest in
fighting the rating war on the night at all, and decided to spend as less money as possible?
