Priscilla Ahn’s Latest Album Includes When Marnie Was There Theme

Priscilla Ahn, whose song “Fine on the Outside” is featured in Ghibli’s When Marnie Was There film, released her latest album on iTunes this month. Just Know That I Love You includes not only the movie’s theme song but other tracks inspired by the film, including “Marnie.”

Ahn offered her thoughts on the film, stating that she wrote “Fine on the Outside” nine years ago she “was thinking about my time as a teenager, and how lonely and difficult it was at times. I would literally sit on my bed and look out the window at night at the moon, and wonder if I was loved… if anyone would miss me if I was gone.”

Ahn read Joan G. Robinson‘s original English children’s novel that Hiromasa Yonebayashi‘s anime film is based on. She submitted “Fine on the Outside” after initial reservations but was contacted via Line by Yonebayashi, who told her he loved song, “After much thought amongst the Ghibli team, this song was chosen. I could not have imagined a better way for it to be debuted to the world.”
