"Sword Art Online" Light Novel Series Gets 10 Million Total Print Run in Japan

It is officially confirmed today on July 31 that Reki Kawahara's popular light novel series Sword Art Online reaches 10 million print run (not the copies sold) in Japan as of the release of its 15th volume scheduled to be published on August 9. SAO is the second Japanese light novel series reaching the 10 million mark, following Kazuma Kamachi's A Certain Magical Index series, which reached the record in October 2010.


 


The first volume of the series was published in Japan on April 10, 2009, and will have 17 volumes in total (including the two "SAOP-Sword Art Online Progressive" spin-off volumes). The series has also been published in China, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, U.S., U.K, and Canada. The total print run in the world including Japan has reached 14 million. It is planned to be released in France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and Vietnam in near future.


 


The 25-episode first TV anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures was aired in Japan from July to December in 2012.


The on-going second season is now available to Crunchyroll users in the following territories: U.S., Canada,


Australia, New Zealand, U.K., Ireland, Latin American Countries, Europe (excluding German & French speaking


countries), Asia (excluding China, Korea, Taiwan).
