What Happens When “Kingdom Hearts” Director Tetsuya Nomura Redesigns Batman?

If you read the headline and thought “belts and zippers!” or something along those lines, you’re not alone. Final Fantasy designer and Kingdom Hearts mastermind Tetsuya Nomura had the opportunity to celebrate 75 years of Batman and re-imagine the Caped Crusader for a Variant Play Arts Kai figure, and the results are as out-there as you might expect.

There’s currently no price or release date, and the version on display at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con is a prototype, but you can see what he cooked up in the pics below.

Batman is part of a line of figures featuring original designs by Nomura, so we should be seeing more of his work on it in the future.

Meanwhile, figures-maker NECA has a very different Batman toy based on the 1989 movie’s Sunsoft-developed Nintendo game. Like Friday the 13th‘s Jason and Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy before it, this figure replicates the color scheme of its NES sprite.
